Beijing cabbage is one of the most precocious and highly productive vegetable crops, a kind of “lifesaver” for both the farmer and the summer resident. Beijing cabbage is so highly productive that it is profitable to grow it even in winter heated greenhouses, and so short a growing period that it allows you to get several crops per season! By the way, not everyone knows about this feature.

In the spring, it provides an earlier and higher supply of vegetable products than early ripe cabbage. The second sowing period (end of July) allows you to reuse the area after harvesting early vegetables, and thereby additionally get excellent vegetable products.

Spring-summer cultivation:

Seeds are sown for seedlings in April; planting in open ground takes place in early May.

Planting scheme: 50x30-40 cm. Seedlings during planting should never be deepened, and plants should not be earthed during the growing period.

You can grow cabbage and seedling method. Seeds are sown in the soil in late April - early May (if the temperature of the soil allows). Crops can be slightly thickened in a row, with a distance between plants of 10 cm. As the leaves grow and close in a row, every second plant is cut for daily consumption, preparation of summer salads, green cabbage and other dishes, leaving 20 cm between plants. When the leaves are closed again, each second plant in the row is cut again, leaving 40 cm between the plants. This makes it possible to use the crop throughout the season. It is not necessary to wait for the complete heading out, the beginning of the shooting of plants and the appearance of peduncles, but it is necessary to cut the heads out on June 25-30.

Remember that sowing seeds in open ground is completed in mid-May, since at a later sowing the heads of cabbage will go in the arrow.

Summer-autumn cultivation:

It is most effective to use only direct sowing in the soil after July 20. We remove the heads of cabbage at the end of September until the first autumn frosts. Seeds are sown on ridges, to a depth of 1-2 cm. Hilling is not carried out, loosening is also carried out with caution.

Rules for choosing varieties:

With the right approach to the selection of varieties, shooters can be avoided, which is complained by the bulk of gardeners when growing this crop.

"Spring" hybrids: Spring Jade F1 and Spring Beauty F1.

"Autumn" hybrids: Autumn jade F1 and Autumn Beauty F1, Sentyabrina F1

“Universal” hybrids giving tight heads out over 50 cm high and weighing up to 4 kg: Miss China F1, Naina F1, Orange heart F1 and Chinese select F1.

Chinese cabbage (pak-choi) is the basis of hundreds of Chinese dishes, which, unfortunately, is not so often found in Russian gardens. This is an annual culture that does not head out, but gives a rosette of rounded convex leaves, with well-defined juicy petioles. Remember that, unlike the Beijing, she is not a frequent guest on our shelves. Most likely, you will not be able to find it on sale. But to grow it is not at all difficult!

Chinese cabbage is more cold-resistant than its Beijing "relative", less affected by disease. Differs in high precocity. Leaflets can be used within a couple of weeks after sowing and harvest gradually, as the plants grow.

The plant does not tolerate temperatures well above +25 C, in which case shading is necessary. The best results are given early and late landing. In the hottest period, like radishes, it is better not to sow cabbage. And again we recommend: do not sow all seeds at once, but sow them at time intervals. So you greatly stretch the harvest.

Chinese cabbage is shade tolerant, so it can be grown with other crops as a sealant.

Try varieties Goluba F1, Chill F1, Four seasons. In Golub F1 and Four seasons, the leaves have dark green leaves, and the Chill F1 hybrid has light green leaves.
