Levkoy, or Mattiola, belongs to the cabbage family. The bushes are branched, single-stem, height - 20-80 cm.

The leaves are elongated-oval, bluish-green or smooth, shiny. The flowers are simple and double, very fragrant, of various colors: white, yellow, pink, red, violet, dark blue and others are collected in racemose inflorescences. Plants with double flowers do not form seeds.

According to the time of flowering, they distinguish left-handed summer, autumn and winter. The latter, as a rule, is cultivated in greenhouses and is one of the most effective potted crops.

The height of the bush plants are tall, medium and dwarf.

Summer and autumn varieties bloom from June until frost. The culture has more than 400 varieties and many groups and subgroups.

Levkoi is propagated by seed. For earlier distillation, they are grown in seedlings. Seeds are sown in March - April in soil, greenhouses or boxes. The soil mixture for the boxes is prepared as follows: 2 parts of turfy land, 1 part of sheet land and 1 part of sand. Humus is not added to the mixture.

For seedlings, sowing is carried out sparsely, placing the seed at a distance of 2-3 cm and a depth of 1-2 cm, sprinkle sand on top with a layer of 1-1.5 cm. Shoots appear after 6-10 days.

In the first decade of April, 3-4 seeds are sown in open ground in 3-4 seeds per hole with a depth of 4-5 cm. The distance between the holes is 25–40 cm, sprinkled with 1-2 cm of sand on top of the hole.

Shoots and planted seedlings tolerate a drop in temperature to -5-7 degrees. FROM.

To obtain seedlings of left-wingers, certain skills are required. With dense sowing, excessive watering with cold water, poor ventilation, excess heat, plants are affected by a black leg. Seedlings upon reaching two true leaves dive into the soil, greenhouses or in boxes at a distance of 5-6 cm. Plants are planted in a permanent place after quenching and the appearance of 4-5 leaves in the first half of April - early May. Depending on the variety, left-handed people are planted at a distance of 20-40 cm from each other.

Plants are placed in an open, well-lit place.

Levkoy transplant is well tolerated. Plants bloom profusely with high agricultural technology. To obtain lush and well-colored inflorescences, 2-3 top dressings are carried out: when buds appear, during the period of full flowering of plants and at the end of August.

Levkoys are used for planting in flower beds, creating groups, arrays, and winter varieties - for potting. A significant part goes to the cut.

Plants are damaged by disease only during the growing of seedlings. Therefore, proper agricultural technology is simply necessary when growing seedlings.
