Almost every gardener and lover of indoor flowers uses fertilizers. Someone buys ready-made fertilizers in stores, someone does it himself. Now we will talk about affordable and very useful top dressing based on ordinary baker's yeast.

What is yeast? Yeast is a group of unicellular mushrooms. It unites about 1,500 species. Typical yeast cell sizes are 3–7 μm in diameter. Yeast is probably one of the most ancient “home organisms.” For thousands of years, people have used them for fermentation and baking.

So, yeast secrete many useful substances for plants: thiamine, B vitamins, auxins, cytokinins. Plants respond very well to all of these substances. Including yeast dressing increase the activity of microorganisms in the soil, activate the processing of organics with the release of phosphorus and nitrogen, and have a stimulating effect on the roots of plants.

Also, according to the experiments, it became known that the substances secreted by yeast cells accelerate the rooting of cuttings, accelerate the appearance of roots by 10-12 days and increase their number several times.

For rooting, the stem is kept in a yeast infusion for a day, and then put in a container half filled with warm water. Also, yeast infusion is used before planting seeds, after soaking in the infusion, the seed will not only grow faster, but also grow a stronger and stronger plant.

A similar effect will be when watering plants with live kvass or live beer, but you should not go to such extremes.

The recipe for infusion of baker's yeast:

For one liter of warm water we take one gram of dry yeast, add sugar, one teaspoon, mix and let it brew for at least two hours. Dilute the resulting solution before use in a ratio of 1: 5 (one liter of infusion per five liters of water) and water our plants.

For one liter of warm water we take fifty grams of live yeast. Dilute the resulting solution before use in a ratio of 1: 5 (one liter of infusion per five liters of water). The solution is ready to use.

On a note:

Like most effective microorganism (EM) preparations, yeast is only active in heat. The cooling of the soil, solution or environment, if it does not destroy the microorganisms, will inhibit their development and nutrition, which means that there will either be no effect, or it will be insignificant.

Make sure that the yeast or the solution based on it is not expired. The use of an expired product, at best, will not bring any effect.

Remember, you should not abuse dressings, all that is useful is that in moderation. For a season two, three top dressings will be enough. In the spring to stimulate vegetation and the formation of ovaries, in the summer for the formation of fruits and peduncles. Also when transplanting plants.

The fermentation process causes increased absorption of calcium and potassium. Therefore, such top dressing must be combined with the introduction of, for example, crushed shell or ash.
