Agrotechnics growing gooseberries is not particularly difficult. Gooseberries - a tall bush (up to 1 meter) and a diameter of up to 1.8 meters. Gooseberries are quite drought tolerant, photophilous and cannot tolerate low-lying moist areas with heavy clay soils. Gooseberry bush can bear fruit up to 15 years. In one area to get a good harvest, there must be at least three to four gooseberry bushes.

Gooseberry Planting

For gooseberries, you must choose a well-lit area. A hole for planting a bush is dug up to a diameter of 70 cm. Organic fertilizers, a glass of wood ash, nitrophoska - five spoons are added to the pit. All fertilizers are mixed with the ground and river sand is added.

Gooseberry seedlings must be planted in the spring, before the first buds open or in the autumn, in the second half of September. Before planting for a day, the roots of the seedling are soaked in liquid organic fertilizer so that the seedling is better taken root.

When planting, the seedling must be deepened to the root neck 6 cm below ground level. The roots are thoroughly straightened and covered with earth, slightly trampling. After planting, gooseberry seedlings are watered and covered with humus or peat.

If planting was carried out in autumn, the seedlings must be spudded to prevent freezing during autumn frosts.

Gooseberry Care

Before fruiting, gooseberry bushes must be watered and spud, loosen the soil around the bush. In spring, it is necessary to fertilize with nitrogen fertilizer.

In autumn, peat or humus with wood sawdust is poured under fruiting bushes with a layer of up to 12 cm. In spring, it is necessary to remove the added layer and loosen the soil.

Gooseberries need the first top dressing when leafing. They feed with urea and nitrophos, while watering the bushes with plenty of water.

The following top dressing is done at the beginning of flowering with full mineral fertilizers - potassium sulfate and a little wood ash is added under the bushes.

The following dressing is carried out when tying the crop. Spend it with a nitrophosic or liquid organic fertilizer.

Very useful for gooseberry top dressing with manure, bird droppings. 5 kg of manure are taken per 100 liters of water, nitrophosphate is added and left for 5 days. Then, 15 liters of solution are poured under each bush. During the summer, you can spend two of these dressings.

During the whole season, gooseberries need weeding, loosening the soil to a depth of 10 cm.

Gooseberry bush formation

The formation of a gooseberry bush begins in the second year. When forming, sick and weak branches are cut off. The last pruning is done at 6 years of the bush's life. It is best to prune before budding or late fall. The adult gooseberry bush should consist of 20-25 shoots.
